Introduction
On May 3rd, 2024, Star Wars returned to Fortnite in version 29.40. It’s the biggest crossover event in Fortnite history so far, spanning all four current modes. Despite all that, I think that this is the worst crossover event in Fortnite history. In this post, I’ll explain how I reached that conclusion.
It Pales In Comparison To The Last Star Wars Event
The Clone Wars (Find the Force) event we got on May 3rd, 2023 with version 24.30, is the best crossover event in Fortnite history. The revitalization of lightsabers brought force powers, injecting new dynamics into Fortnite's combat system, and enhancing both mobility and strategic options for players. With the ability to sprint faster, double jump, and utilize force powers like pushing, pulling, and throwing objects, the game's combat became more versatile and engaging. Additionally, the inclusion of the DC-15 Blaster provided players with a reliable weapon choice, boasting high accuracy and proficiency at medium-to-long-range encounters, all without the worry of running out of ammo.
The accompanying Mini Battle Pass gave out a generous amount of cosmetics and even a whopping five skins. It was a blast and hyped me up for the next Star Wars event, tricking me into thinking that the next Star Wars event would be just as good.
The Current Star Wars Event Experience In Battle Royale
Don’t let the amount of free cosmetics provided in quests across all modes fool you, this event still sucks. They didn't bring the last event’s lightsabers back with their force powers, which is such an insane step backward to take, and the worst thing about it is that there isn't a step forward either. The new Bowcaster sucks, in fact, it sucks in every video game I've used it. It's just a bad weapon. The E-11 Blaster Rifle is just as good as every other time it has shown up, which thankfully isn't bad. Darth Vader's lightsaber has some pretty heavy shoes to fill due to being the only one on the entire island. And sadly, the lightsaber sucked, to begin with. To be fair, it didn't provide force powers during the Clone Wars event (probably because it appeared before the Clone Wars event), however, if you're going to make it the only one you can choose; the least they could have done is buffed it. Give it every force power at once and the agility that comes with it, now that would be worth the effort it takes to get it.
A friend of mine told me that the reason we didn't get the mythics from the Clone Wars event was probably so we wouldn't have to end the season without the Greek mythics. This is a great point, which makes me wonder why we didn't just keep them during the Avatar event, so it wouldn't be that bad not having them during this event. The Star Wars mythics this time around just don't mesh with the current loot pool. Why would one take the time in a match to fight Vader and get his lightsaber if you're just going to get obliterated by the Chains of Hades or the Thunderbolt of Zeus?
The Current Star Wars Event Experience In Lego Fortnite
It’s pretty good. You get to see a pretty nice mini-event in the sky, watching the empire fight some rebels. Then, after that, you'll meet Rebel Captain Bravara. She gives you some Macrobinoculars that help you find Rebel and Empire bases. It leads to an epic Star Wars adventure. Who am I kidding? I’m the biggest Lego Fortnite hater. I hate the way it plays, I hate the way it looks, I hate the way it ruined the item shop, and I hate how Lego Fortnite is going to keep the Star Wars stuff after this update. It’s as if Lego Fortnite players got a world-class meal this update while the superior Battle Royal players got leftovers.
Also, the Lego Mini Battle Pass is a joke.
Everything Isn’t Cool When You’re Part Of A Team
I feel like the mediocrity of this event is Disney’s fault since the quality of the game started to drop when Disney’ announced its $1.5 billion stake in Epic Games. Quality drops such as getting rid of cosmetic rarities, essentially making it where Epic Games can price cosmetics however they want.
Conclusion
You know, I was hyped for this event. I thought it would have been a return to form, all it has done for me is make me nostalgic for the Clone Wars event. The Battle Royal we once knew and loved is now taking a backseat to the other modes. That is why the lore has taken a backseat too.
We didn’t even have Kratos return to the item shop this season, the gosh darn God of War not returning during the Myths & Mortals. You know, the Greek mythology-themed season. With the apocalypse season (it was leaked in the roadmap leak) right around the corner, I can’t see the current state of Battle Royal improving. If next season sucks I might hop off and never come back. It is so demotivating to keep getting disappointed with the state of the game time and time again. If you feel the same way or don’t, drop it in the comments.
